Makoto Hasebe is a defensive midfielder who joined Urawa Red Diamonds from Shizuoka Prefecture’s Fujieda Higashi High School in 2002. He secured his position in 2003 and spent 5 years for Red Devils with 149 appearances and scoring 12 goals, led the team to J-league Division 1, Emperor’s Cup, J. League Cup and AFC Champions League titles.
Hasebe left Urawa Reds to start his new career with Wolfsburg in 2008 and helped them win their first league title under the coach Felix Magath. He moved to Nuremberg in 2013 before joining Frankfurt in the summer of 2014. In 2017, Japanese midfielder marked his 235th match in Eintracht Frankfurt, which is a new record by Japanese player in Bundesliga. The previous record holder was Yasuhiko Okudera, the first Japanese player to play professionally in Germany. Okudera transferred from Furukawa Denko, the predecessor of JEF United Chiba to Germany in 1977. He played for 1.FC Cologne and Werder Bremen.
In international career, Makoto Hasebe was first called up for the Japan National team on February 2006. He has been capped more than 100 times for Japan, scoring twice and played in 2010, 2014 FIFA world Cup and 2007, 2011, 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
