Cerezo Osaka is a J.League professional football club based in Osaka city and Sakai city, Osaka prefecture and its home stadium is KINCHO stadium (Yanmar Stadium Nagai), which is used only for football.

The team was founded as the Yanmar Diesel Football Club in 1957 then Kunishige Kamamoto joined the team.
Kamamoto is often considered to be the best football player in Japanese history. Thanks to him, the team enjoyed its golden age, when it achieved great results such as winning the JSL title four times and the Emperor’s Cup three times in 1970s. Kyoto born striker also played for the Japan National team. He scored 7 goals and became the top scorer at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City with leading the team to the Bronze medal.

The team adopted the name “Cerezo Osaka” after a public contest in 1993 and won the JFL title in 1994 then was promoted to the J.League in 1995.

It has provided many players to the Japan national team so far. The players who once played for the team include Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan, who was a top scorer and received the Golden Ball award in 2010 FIFA World Cup, Cacau, who was a member of the Germany national team, Shinji Kagawa, who plays for Dortmund, Takashi Inui, who plays for Eibar, Hiroshi Kiyotake, Yoichiro Kakitani, Akihiro Ienaga, Yoshito Okubo, Hotaru Yamgaguchi and Takumi Minamino.

The base color of the team’s home jersey is pink and the shirts have been supplied by Puma and Mizuno so far. Its sponsors’ names are printed on the jerseys such as “YANMAR”, “Nipponham”, “KINCHO”, “SINGHA BEER” and “SANYU”.
