League, along with several individual awards. He is a player that represents Japan both in name and substance.
He started playing soccer as a child thanks to his older brother’s influence. When he entered the famous soccer school Kagoshima Jitsugyo High School he began honing his skills and as a third year student he appeared in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament, where he shined as the MVP. Thanks to his natural talents he grew to become a famous athlete.
After he graduated in 1998 he joined the Yokohama Flugels and started playing from the opening match of the league. Unfortunately the club was dissolved that year, so he soon transferred to Kyoto Sanga FC, where he established himself as a regular and demonstrated his skills in making plays, but at the end of the 2000 season the team relegated to J2. Endo, yearning to play in the J1 League, switched to Gamba Osaka and continues to play for them even now in 2017 as a symbol of the team.

He supported Gamba Osaka during their heyday by leading the team to victory in the J. League 2x, Nabisco Cup 2x, Emperor’s Cup 4x and AFC Champions League 1x.
In the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup’s quarter finals against Adelaide United FC and in the semi-finals against Manchester United F.C., Endo not only scored a goal on each match, but was also praised by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson for his outstanding plays.
Endo demonstrated his abilities not only in his club, but also as a representative of Japan. During the 1999 World Youth Championship he contributed the team to in the final along with famous players like Shinji Ono, Naohiro Takahara, Junichi Inamoto and others. From 2002, when he first joined the senior national team, up to 2015 he has appeared in 152 matches, which is the record highest appearance amount in the Japan national team.
He was chosen as a Japan squad for 3 FIFA World Cups: 2006 Germany, 2010 South Africa and 2014 Brazil. Even among the new growing talent, he was able to show stable results. When management changed he adapted to the new system and thanks to his intelligent plays was able to contribute a lot to the team.
