Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo is a J.League professional football club based in Sapporo city, Hokkaido and its home stadium is Sapporo Dome, which is used in 2002 FIFA World Cup.
The club was founded as Toshiba Horikawa-cho Soccer Club in 1935. It won the All Japan Adults Football Tournament in 1977 and was promoted to Japan Soccer League (JSL) Division2 in 1978 then to Division1 in 1989.
The team joined Japan Football League (JFL), which was a practical lower league of J.League, in 1992 and moved to Sapporo city in 1996 then changed its name to Consadole Sapporo.
Consadole has never won any major titles since it joined the J.League and become an elevator club, which has repeatedly moved between the Division1 and 2.
The players who once played for the team include Hugo Maradona, who is a younger brother of Diego Maradona (former member of the Argentine national team), Hulk, who was a member of the Brazil national team, and former members of the Japan National team such as Masashi Nakayama, Shinji Ono and Junichi Inamoto.
The team’s jersey uses red-and-black striped pattern, which succeeds former Toshiba’s uniform design.
After it joined the J.League, its shirts were supplied by Puma and Adidas then since 2007, Kappa has been in charge of them.
Its sponsors’ names and products’ logos are printed on the jerseys such as “Shiroi Koibito” of Ishiya Seika, which is a confectionery maker in Sapporo city, Hokkaido, “Sapporo Beer”, “JAL” and “JA Hokkaido”.
