Shimizu S-Pulse is a J.League professional football club based in Shizuoka city, Shizuoka prefecture and its home stadium is IAI Stadium Nihondaira, which has been received the J.League Best Pitch award nine times.
The team is one of the “Original 10”, ten teams which have played in the J.League since its foundation. It is the only club which doesn’t have a parent company among the “Original 10”.
The club’s head coach has been served by Emerson Leao, who is called one of the best goalkeepers of the Brazil national team, Roberto Rivelino, Osvaldo Ardiles, who was a member of the Argentina national team when it won the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
As of 2017, Spulse has won the J.league 2nd Stage Championship once, the Emperor’s Cup once, J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup once, FUJI XEROX SUPEER CUP twice and Asian Cup Winners Cup once.
The players who once played for the team include Freddie Ljungberg, who was a member of the Sweden national team and also played an active role in Arsenal F.C., Daniele Massaro, who scored many winning goals in AC Milan and Milivoje Novakovic, who played for 1. FC Koln. In addition to them, Shinji Ono, Naohiro Takahara and Shinji Okazaki, who now plays an active role in Leicester and won the Premier League title in 2016, once played for the Shimizu.
The base color of the team’s home jersey is orange and the shirts were once supplied by Puma and Mizuno. Since 1997, Puma has been in charge of them. Its sponsors’ names are printed on the jerseys such as “Suzuyo” and “IAI”.
