Vegalta Sendai is a J.League professional football club based in Sendai city, Miyazaki prefecture and its home stadium is Yurtec Stadium Sendai, which the Italy national team used as its practice ground in 2002 FIFA World Cup.

The team was founded as an in-house football club of Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. in 1988 and changed its name to Brummell Sendai in 1994 then became a J.League associate member and joined the Japan Football League (JFL) in 1995. In 1999, when the J.League introduced a two-division system, the team joined J2 and changed its name to current “Vegalta Sendai” because of its trademark issue.

Vegalta won the J2 title in 2009 but has never won any competitions in J1 so far.

The players who once played for the team include Pierre Littbarski, who was a member of the West Germany national team in 1990 FIFA World Cup Italy and Atsushi Yanagisawa, who played for Sampdoria in Seria A and Messina Peloro.

The base color of the team’s home jersey was green when the team used to be Tohoku Electric Power Football Club and Brummell Sendai then changed to gold at the same time as the team changed its name to Vegalta Sendai.

After the team joined the J.League, its shirts were supplied by Topper and Asics then since 2015, Adidas has been in charge of them. Its jerseys’ names and products’ logos are printed on the shirts such as “IRIS OHYAMA”, “Yamaya”, “Selco Home” and “KADAN”.
