Yokohama FC are a professional soccer club in the J. League, currently playing in the J2 league. Their home town is Yokohama city in Kanagawa prefecture. The team´s home stadium is the Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium in Yokohama city.

The team was founded in 1998 by the supporters of Yokohama Flugels when Yokohama Flugels and Yokohama Marinos merged. With Yasuhiko Okudera as their general manager, Pierre Littbarski as head coach and 22 former J. League athletes under contract, they won the JFL championship in 1999 and in 2000. From 2001 they were accepted into the J. League and they began in J2.

After joining the J. League they struggled for a while in the lower positions, but in the middle of the 2005 season they acquired former Japan National Team players like Kazuyoshi Miura, Motohiro Yamaguchi, Shigeyoshi Mochizuki and the following year, in 2006, they earned their first J2 championship and became the first team with JFL experience to promote to J1.

In their second match in J1 they got their first victory against Yokohama F. Marinos with a score of 1-0, but from that point onward they fell into a slump in the last place and went right back to J2. After 2008 their results haven’t stabilized in J2 either and thus we reach their present state where they are still unable to fight for 1st place.

One of the players that is symbolic of Yokohama FC is Kazuyoshi Miura. Miura joined the team in 2005 and even now at the age of 50 he is still an active athlete and the world’s oldest professional soccer player. When he scored a goal against Thespakusatsu Gunma on May 12th 2017, he renewed his own J. League record for being the oldest player to score a goal at 50 years and 14 days old, as well as surpassing the previous world record holder from England, Stanley Matthew’s record, at 50 years and 5 days.

Yokohama FC’s home jersey is light blue and their supplier from 2015 has been SOCCER JUNKY. Their shirts have logos of their sponsors like LEOC, FRONTIER PC and others.
