Description

Fernando Torres, born on March 20, 1984, in Spain, is a professional soccer player. He has played for clubs like Atletico Madrid and Liverpool FC, and he has clean-cut, handsome features, explosive speed, and incredible decision making abilities as a striker.

In the Spain national team, he contributed to his team’s victory in UEFA EURO in 2008 and 2012, and in 2010 FIFA World Cup. Since July 2018, he’s been playing for Sagan Tosu in Japan’s J. League.

Started playing soccer in his childhood, and at the age of 11, he joined Atletico’s sub organization. Gradually he moved up the different categories, and when he was 15, he signed a professional contract.

At the time, Atletico was in the Segunda Division (2nd division), but when Torres made his first appearance on May 27, 2001, in a regular season game against the top level team CD Leganes, after one week, in the match against Albacete Balompie he scored his first goal.

During the 2001-2002 season, Torres appeared in 36 matches and scored 6 goals, helping his team promote to the Primera Division. After the promotion, he had hist first taste of the first division, and he managed to maintain good results; in hist first year, he appeared in 29 matches and scored 13 goals, and quickly gathering a lot of attention.

Next year, at the tender age of 19, he was made team captain. By scoring 19 goals, Torres made it into 3rd place in the overall scoring rankings, and until he transferred to Liverpool FC in the 2007-2008 season, he played as Atletico’s central player and for 5 years in a row, he scored 2 digit goals and grew to become a world class player.

His first experience with the Premier League was in the 2007-2008 season, where on August 19 against Chelsea F.C., he scored his first goal after transferring to the new team. By the end of the season, he produced 24 goals, and thus set the record for most points scored by a foreigner during their first year in England, and he established himself as a thundering striker in the Premier League.

However, when Torres had to withdraw from competition due to hamstring injury in the third match of his 2nd year against Aston Villa F.C., he then went through repeated injuries, which started to have an effect on his signature speed and decision making abilities, and gradually his performance started to decline.

On January 31, 2011, he signed a 5 year contract with Chelsea F.C., which at the time was the highest paid sum in the Premier League. However, his poor condition continued and it took him 903 minutes of play time before he scored his first goal. Unable to produce results in Chelsea F.C., he transferred to AC Milan. Finally, on December 29, 2014, he returned to his old team, Atletico Madrid.

In Atletico, he showed that he was getting back to form by scoring 11 goals in the 2015-2016 season, and 8 goals in the 2016-2017 season. After 4 season in the team, he decided it was time to leave at the end of the 2017-2018 season, with the UEFA Europa League championship title as his crowning glory.

On July 10, 2018, it was announced that Fernando Torres would be joining the J. League team Sagan Tosu under the No. 9 jersey.

Torres has been the central player in Spain national team ever since his youth days. In UEFA U16, and U19 Europe championship, he achieved the Top Scorer and the MVP award. At the senior national team, he has appeared in 110 matches, and scored 38 goals, on top of which he has appeared in 3 consecutive tournaments in both UEFA EURO and FIFA World Cup.

In the finals of the UEFA EURO 2008, he went up against Germany and scored the final goal, leading his team to victory, and even after that he experienced the championship victory in 2010 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2012.
